WA Young Artists Chamber Music Program

The WA Young Artists Chamber Music Program (WAYACHAMP) offers opportunities for string and piano students aged 11 – 17 to develop their musicianship by participating in chamber ensembles under the mentorship of Australia’s best chamber musicians. The premier program, WAYACHAMP Perth, is held annually in September at the University of Western Australia. The Program also holds regional events and play along days throughout the year.

The Maroondah Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra founded in 1964 and based in Ringwood, a suburb in Melbourne’s east. Conducted by Willem van der Vis, we present four programs of classical music each year at the George Wood Performing Arts Centre, in Ringwood, with two programs repeated at Cowes and a retirement village in Croydon. Rehearsals are at 8pm on Tuesday evenings in Ringwood. New players are welcome, particularly violins, violas and low brass. A minimum standard of AMEB Grade 6 or equivalent is expected. The 2018 Cairns Winter Music School will take place 9-12 July. This annual event is a unique adult workshop and performance opportunity. Musicians come from across Australia to perform under the baton of UK conductor, Mark Eager. This year’s programme will be Dvorak New World Symphony, Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto 1 (soloist Maxwell Foster) and Mussorgsky/ Rimsky Korsakov Night on a Bare Mountain. Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra

Melbourne’s oldest community orchestra plays five concerts a year in Melbourne and regional areas. Repertoire ranges from Mozart to Shostakovich and beyond.
