AUSTA’s 2025 Golden Jubilee conference at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music celebrates the history and vision of a professional community that has transformed the life and work of string players, teachers and makers in Australia for half a century.

Connecting Australian string players, industry, teachers, learners and parents AUSTA advances artistry, inspiration and opportunity through national and international collaborations.

The conference will feature presentations, workshops and round table discussions on teaching, learning and performance, working in regional communities, strings in schools, conducting, ensemble development and repertoire, methodology and pedagogy of instrumental development for Double Bass, Cello, Viola and Violin, maintaining instruments, masterclasses, performances and much more…

Headline Speakers and Performers Include…

  • Elizabeth Morgan AM – legendary teacher and founding member of AUSTA will speak about the history and vision for AUSTA
  • Anita Collins – author of The Music Advantage, founder of Bigger and Better Brains and global expert on neuroscience and music talks about Neural Notes: How Learning String Instruments Shapes Brain Development, conducts workshops on working in challenging context and discusses optimising the relationship with parents for the benefit of student learning.
  • Emily Sun –  international soloist and professor of violin at the Royal College of Music, London, “possessed of a superb talent” (The Australian), playing with “a searing and poetic tone” (The Guardian) in recital and masterclass
  • Timothy Kantor – recently appointed to the Sydney Conservatorium talks about The importance of musical interpretation and how to inspire students to develop their own way of interpreting music.
