Starting and Supporting Young Bassists

Session: Setting up new bassists and young bassists with the tools and skills to succeed. Practical tips and insights into some of the most important skills that will help your bassists to participate and flourish with the other strings.

Understanding the differences and the similarities to teaching other strings in order to teach more effectively. Understanding the unique challenges the double bass player faces when playing in ensembles with other strings.
Bio: Andrew Moon brings a wealth of experience to his string teaching. He spent more than twenty five years as Associate Principal Bassist in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as well as teaching double bass at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University, Monash University, the National Academy of Music, and the Academy for Performing Arts in Hong Kong. Beginning in 2018, he began Suzuki Double Bass training in the USA with Dr. Daniel Swaim. Since 2019, Andrew has been teaching double bass to primary-age students in schools and working with string programs in schools around Melbourne. Andrew believes the highest achievement in music for himself and his students is to be able to participate in music with friends and peers, enjoying playing together.
