Robertson Youth Orchestra

The Robertson String Orchestra (RSO), established in late 2024, is a string ensemble for advancing students at AMEB Grade 5 level or equivalent. The orchestra focuses on developing rhythm, intonation, sight-reading, orchestral etiquette, and advanced musical understanding through challenging and engaging repertoire. RSO rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings during school term and presents concerts in a professional performance venue. Managed by Heidelberg Orchestras Inc, the orchestra operates as a non-profit ensemble with audition and membership requirements, and places strong emphasis on commitment, collaboration, and high standards of participation.

Junior Strings of Banyule (JSB) is an ensemble for young string players at AMEB Grade 1–5 level (or equivalent), offering a fun and educational environment to develop orchestral performance skills. Essendon Symphony

The Essendon Symphony is a community orchestra based in Melbourne’s Moonee Valley that rehearses every Tuesday night from 7.15 – 9.45. We perform a variety of concerts throughout the year and have an excellent reputation both for our kids concerts, and our formal classical repertoire. Concerts are usually held in the Clocktower Centre. We have a wide age range and ability range of players and thoroughly enjoy rehearsals as well as cake during the break (when we can get it).

The WA Young Artists Chamber Music Program (WAYACHAMP) offers opportunities for string and piano students aged 11 – 17 to develop their musicianship by participating in chamber ensembles under the mentorship of Australia’s best chamber musicians. The premier program, WAYACHAMP Perth, is held annually in September at the University of Western Australia. The Program also holds regional events and play along days throughout the year.

Vasek Young String Players Foundation

The VYSPF aims to provide scholarships and grants for WA string players under the age of 25, to develop a string resource centre for the WA music community and to establish a collection of fine string instruments for use by deserving students.

Whitehorse Orchestra

The Whitehorse Orchestra is a well-established community orchestra in Melbourne, founded in the 1960s as a training ensemble for secondary students. Now comprising over 65 players, it presents three major concerts annually, alongside children’s concerts and performances for local communities and councils. The orchestra has performed at significant local events, including Carols by Candlelight and city festivals, and has toured internationally, including a visit to China in 2015. It also manages the long-running Harrietville Music Camp, supporting young musicians in the region.

Mosman Symphony Orchestra is a friendly community orchestra and we are always keen to welcome new players. People join the orchestra for many reasons. Some of our members are music teachers, some are music students who take the opportunity to learn the standard orchestral repertoire in a friendly, non threatening environment. Many are simply amateur players who love playing orchestral music.
