The Robertson String Orchestra (RSO), established in late 2024, is a string ensemble for advancing students at AMEB Grade 5 level or equivalent. The orchestra focuses on developing rhythm, intonation, sight-reading, orchestral etiquette, and advanced musical understanding through challenging and engaging repertoire. RSO rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings during school term and presents concerts in a professional performance venue. Managed by Heidelberg Orchestras Inc, the orchestra operates as a non-profit ensemble with audition and membership requirements, and places strong emphasis on commitment, collaboration, and high standards of participation.

Junior Strings of Banyule (JSB) is an ensemble for young string players at AMEB Grade 1–5 level (or equivalent), offering a fun and educational environment to develop orchestral performance skills. The ensemble focuses on building technique, ensemble playing, and musical confidence through a varied repertoire of classical, popular, and original works designed to support student growth. JSB rehearses weekly during school term and performs concerts in professional venues. Managed by Heidelberg Orchestras Inc, the ensemble emphasizes teamwork, musical learning, and positive performance experiences for young musicians.

The Essendon Symphony is a community orchestra based in Melbourne’s Moonee Valley that rehearses every Tuesday night from 7.15 – 9.45. We perform a variety of concerts throughout the year and have an excellent reputation both for our kids concerts, and our formal classical repertoire. Concerts are usually held in the Clocktower Centre. We have a wide age range and ability range of players and thoroughly enjoy rehearsals as well as cake during the break (when we can get it).

The WA Young Artists Chamber Music Program (WAYACHAMP) offers opportunities for string and piano students aged 11 – 17 to develop their musicianship by participating in chamber ensembles under the mentorship of Australia’s best chamber musicians. The premier program, WAYACHAMP Perth, is held annually in September at the University of Western Australia. The Program also holds regional events and play along days throughout the year.

Community orchestra of the mid-north coast of NSW is looking for upper string players of Grade 4 proficiency or above. From teens to seniors. Repertoire is mixed: baroque, classical, to modern popular, show medleys, jazz, etc. Rehearse Taree mainly for concert series performed for local communities across the mid-north coast. All voluntary. We are a friendly, inclusive group who love to play music together, with an active board, scholarships for our young players, cultivating a musical culture in our beautiful coastal and affordable region.

Perth Scottish Fiddlers was formed in 2009 to give musicians the opportunity to learn and play the rich and extensive fiddle music of Scotland.

VYSPF is a registered charitable organisation dedicated to serving the larger community by working for the improvement of quality in Australian music education through courses, workshops, performances and the provision of resources. The VYSPF aims to provide scholarships and grants for WA string players under the age of 25, to develop a string resource centre for the WA music community and to establish a collection of fine string instruments for use by deserving students.

The Whitehorse Orchestra is a well-established community orchestra in Melbourne, founded in the 1960s as a training ensemble for secondary students. Now comprising over 65 players, it presents three major concerts annually, alongside children’s concerts and performances for local communities and councils. The orchestra has performed at significant local events, including Carols by Candlelight and city festivals, and has toured internationally, including a visit to China in 2015. It also manages the long-running Harrietville Music Camp, supporting young musicians in the region.

RYS is a small and enthusiastic and welcoming string orchestra in the Dandenong Ranges catering for players who have had at least 18 months of instrumental lessons on violin, viola, cello and bass. The Norwood Symphony Orchestra (NSO) is South Australia’s oldest continuously running community orchestra, tracing its origins to 1923 when Norman Sellick formed a small student ensemble. Mosman Symphony Orchestra is a friendly community orchestra and we are always keen to welcome new players. People join the orchestra for many reasons. Some of our members are music teachers, some are music students who take the opportunity to learn the standard orchestral repertoire in a friendly, non threatening environment. Many are simply amateur players who love playing orchestral music. There are no auditions, but to be comfortable with the repertoire string players should be at a level equivalent to AMEB Grade 5 or above.
