AUSTA Playing Opportunities

Ranges Young Strings

RYS is a small and enthusiastic and welcoming string orchestra in the Dandenong Ranges catering for players who have had at least 18 months of instrumental lessons on violin, viola, cello and bass.

Ranges Young Strings is a small string orchestra based in the Dandenong Ranges, with an age range of approximately 8 – 17. It is a unit of the Dandenong Ranges Music Council. Directed by Rosalind Burns, the primary aim is to further develop skills and enthusiasm for playing a variety of string music. With a focus on music literacy and stylistic playing within a positive and fun learning environment, many past members have gained instrument scholarships at a range of schools with strong music programmes. RYS has also participated in workshops with the MSO, Baroque Dance expert Helga Hill, and members of the Australian Youth Orchestra.
