Natalya is a professional violinist and teacher based in the Southern Beaches Pensinsula of Lutruwita, Tasmania (servicing Sorell, Forcett, Dodges Ferry, Primrose Sands, Dunalley, Copping, Marion Bay). She teaches in the instrumental and ensembles programs at The Friends’ School and Mount Carmel College in Nipaluna Hobart and through her private studio in Primrose Sands – teaching violin, viola and beginner cello.

Professionally, Natalya performs on violin as a casual player with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, as a baroque violinist in Van Diemen’s Band and as a multi-instrumentalist at MONA – Museum of New and Old Art —performing as part of the resident string quartet in the 4pm installation series and as a composer/improvisor at Faro, working closely with dancers and movement artists.

She completed her MMus in 2021 exploring the lost art of violin improvisation in Western classical music through a combination of early music sources and practice techniques used in 20th century jazz playing.

She is an avid collaborator, improvisor and experimentalist — as part of duo Bing/Santospirito, she performs on electric violin, cello, piano and percussion and has been commissioned several times by Mona Foma festival and Theatre Royal, Hobart to present large scale audio-visual improvised performances. She has also co-composed music for theatre productions.

She studied violin and the Alexander Technique with Janet Davies (Sydney Conservatorium) from 2012 – 2016, and has continued studying Alexander technique in sessions with Penny McDonald (Hobart).

Past contemporary performances on violin also include Olafúr Arnalds, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Buble and the late Jack Colwell.

As a hobby she plays drums and keys for in Hobart punk/jazz band ‘Warner, Smith & Bancroft’.
