Viola Teacher, Nedlands Ms Helen Tuckey

ms-helen-tuckey-2

A violist in WASO, AMEB examiner, Principal Consultant of Viola Series 2 and author of the Series 2 Viola Technical Work Book, I am an accredited WAMTA member and current AUSTA WA Treasurer. I enjoy teaching viola and violin students from age 4 upwards. I teach violin at very elementary level and viola at all levels including beginners on mini violas (possible from around age 6). I took post graduate studies in viola at  Manhattan School of Music New York where I studied with Lillian Fuchs. Undergraduate studies were at VCA Melbourne, and during this time I had lessons with William Primrose, Mischa Elman student Andre Hadges, and major studies were with Paul O’Brien, past Principal Viola of Melbourne Symphony. The inspiration of these teachers informs my teaching, alongside more recent pedagogical interests and research including Paul Rolland, Molly Gebrian, Suzuki, Kurt Sassmannshaus, Dalcroze and Body Mapping. With a secure technical and theoretical basis for progress, students explore music in a variety of genres for sight reading, repertoire, improvisation and general musical skills.  Past students include professional players, teachers, and many others enjoy music while pursuing other careers.
