Sarah Scheermeijer, a German-born violinist, continued her musical journey under the tutelage of renowned educator Elizabeth Morgan AM. At age nine, she captivated audiences with a solo performance for Queensland’s governor, marking the start her career. At the age of 10, her early achievements included appearances on ABC 2NR radio, a national TV feature in the 1999 St George Commercial, and solo performances at iconic venues such as the Sydney Opera House, as well as performing as soloist with ensembles like the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Quartet. Sarah earned scholarships from Somerville House, Queensland Young Conservatorium, Avondale University (Academic and Musical Excellence), Newcastle Conservatorium (Australian Postgraduate Award studying under Dr Susan Collins), and the University of Tasmania (Research Training Program (RTP – which supported her doctoral studies). She has served as concertmaster and soloist for various university and community orchestras. A passionate educator, Sarah has directed Strings programs for over ten years. Her students and ensembles consistently receive top awards at Eisteddfods, and AMEB state and diploma prizes for excellence. In 2021, Sarah received the AMEB Tasmania Arts Excellence Award for teaching the state’s largest cohort of A+ exam achievers – across all instruments and genres. Sarah has served as president of the Nova Muse Festival, and has been invited as a tutor and soloist for string camps, community orchestras and festivals in Australia.
