There are days in the musical calendar that feel like appointments.
…And then there are days that feel like ignition
String Ensemble Reading Day 2026 is the latter.
Hosted by Austa NSW, this is your invitation to step into a room humming with possibility — a hall full of string players, conductors, and composers ready to test ideas, shape repertoire, and listen deeply.
Bring your curiosity. Observe new music coming to life in real time. Explore programming possibilities. Watch how new works land in the hands of live players.
Submit your scores. Hear them breathe. Feel what works. Discover what needs reshaping.
Spend a day immersed in fresh repertoire and collaborative music-making. Stretch technically. Listen generously. Connect with the wider string community beyond your own rehearsal room.
And yes — many of Sydney’s leading Heads of Strings will be in the room.
This is a rare convergence of experience, pedagogy, and artistry. A chance to exchange ideas, share repertoire, and strengthen the professional web that keeps string programs thriving across NSW.
Expect:
• An evening of ensemble reading new repertoire from Australian composers with like minded colleagues
• New and emerging Australian works
• Collegial conversation (the good kind — the animated, score-covered kind)
If you conduct strings, write for strings, teach strings, or live and breathe them — this day is for you.
Come with your string instrument
Leave with ideas.
