Dr Sarah Scheermeijer, a German-born violinist, continued her studies under the acclaimed pedagogue Elizabeth Morgan AM and received early recognition at the age of 10, including appearances on ABC 2NR radio, a national TV feature in the 1999 St George Commercial, solo performances at iconic venues such as the Sydney Opera House, as well as performing as soloist with ensembles such as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Quartet. Sarah has secured numerous scholarships, including those from Somerville House, Queensland Young Conservatorium, Avondale University (Academic and Musical Excellence), Newcastle Conservatorium (Australian Postgraduate Award studying under Dr Susan Collins), and a Research Training Program scholarship (UTAS) for her doctoral studies. She completed her PhD (violin performance) with her final recital focusing on works of Fritz Bennicke Hart (presented in 2025). As an educator, she has directed Strings programs for two decades. In 2021, she received the AMEB Tasmania Arts Excellence Award for teaching the state’s largest cohort of A+ exam achievers. Sarah has served as president of the Nova Muse Festival, and as a tutor and soloist for string camps, community orchestras and festivals in Australia. She is currently chapter president of the Australian String Teachers Association (AUSTA), an AMEB state examiner (strings), the director of the String Theory ensembles, and maintains an active teaching practice in northern Tasmania.
