Our History
The Australian Strings Association was founded in 1975, over 40 years ago. Its founders recognised the need to connect and support string teachers, performers, and makers across Australia at a time when string education was still developing in many parts of the country.
From these humble beginnings, AUSTA grew rapidly, establishing chapters in every state and organising workshops, conferences, and tours with overseas guest artists.
Today, AUSTA remains a vital part of Australia’s musical landscape, with long‑standing members who first joined as students or neophyte teachers now serving with distinction in its communities and continuing the tradition of advocacy and support for string musicians across the country.
