AUSTA Playing Opportunities

Surrey Hills Orchestra

Surrey Hills Orchestra is a community orchestra that has been performing for 30 years. We rehearse each Tuesday evening and hold major concerts in May and November. Recent concerts included works by Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Bizet. Surrey Hills Orchestra is proud of the diverse range of ages and professional backgrounds of its players. We encourage members to perform as a soloist in the August Concertofest. Players need to have had orchestral and/or ensemble experience and have the equivalent of at least Grade 7 AMEB. Good sight-reading skills are assumed and the willingness to practise between rehearsals. Acceptance to the orchestra is dependent on positions available. We always need more upper strings (violins and violas) and brass and sometimes extra percussionists. We are a fee paying orchestra and fees are payable at the beginning of each school term. Membership Fees pay music hire and purchase, venue hire, conductor salary, advertising, stationery, concert production and public liability insurance.
