Mosman Symphony Orchestra is a friendly community orchestra and we are always keen to welcome new players.

People join the orchestra for many reasons. Some of our members are music teachers, some are music students who take the opportunity to learn the standard orchestral repertoire in a friendly, non threatening environment. Many are simply amateur players who love playing orchestral music.

Resonance String Orchestra

Resonance is an exciting music education initiative in the Macedon Ranges. It provides an outstanding program for string students of all ages who wish to extend their musicianship and ensemble skills, meet other string students and work with a team of professional tutors and visiting artists. To date, Resonance has enjoyed partnerships with the Freshwater Trio, Pollyphonics Choir and the Australian Youth Orchestra String Quartet. This year, the orchestra will undertake a series of workshops and a performance with an artist from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s education program, among other activities. The Resonance tutor team provides small group tutorials and whole orchestra tuition. All tutors are tertiary trained professional musicians with extensive experience as music educators and performers. Resonance provides a warm and welcoming environment for its students.

The orchestra is open to dedicated string students of all ages. The minimum entry standard is AMEB First Grade or equivalent and we cater for students of up to 7th grade standard. Currently over 14 different primary and secondary schools are represented in the orchestra, as well as a number of adult students. We rehearse on Monday evenings during school term in Woodend and stage regular concerts.

The Dandenong Ranges Orchestra is a community group open to all ages and abilities, without audition. The repertoire covers all periods from Baroque to Modern and popular Musicals. Maroondah Symphony Orchestra

The Maroondah Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra based in Ringwood, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Weekly rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from 8.00pm to 10.15pm throughout the year, with the exception of December and January, at the Maroondah Federation Estate, Greenwood Avenue, Ringwood. The Estate is a well lit and comfortably air conditioned facility which provides an enjoyable and accoustically sound venue for rehearsal.
We have particular vacancies in violas, double basses, trombones and violins.
We produce about 4 concert programs every year, with two repeats at different venues.
An annual concert, sponsored by the Philip Island Cultural Committee is performed at Cowes, Philip Island, Victoria.
In addition to orchestral performances, the orchestra combines with local choirs to present a choral concert. These combined performances have included Vivaldi's Gloria and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy.
We also do workshops with young composers and are involved in nurturing young composers.
Our Musical Director is Willem van der Vis, who is well known in Melbourne as a conductor, teacher and cellist.

Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra

Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra is one of Australia's oldest community orchestras and will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2013 with a Big Bang. We will be performing Mahler's 8th Symphony in the Melbourne Town Hall on 21 and 22 September 2013. We will finish our 80th anniversary celebrations by taking up MSO's invitation to play a curtain-raiser concert prior to their concert in the Myer Music Bowl on 22 February 2014.

We are also proud that we were invited to help Federation Square celebrate its 10th anniversary in October 2012 by doing a flash mob in the Atrium and following that with a concert in BMW Edge.

Stonnington Symphony Inc

Stonnington Symphony does not hold auditions, instead they have guideline standards which all players should have attained. If you have reached Grade 8 AMEB (or equivalent) on your chosen instrument, have at least 2 years post-educational orchestral experience and would like to be considered to play in the orchestra, then please contact the office on (03)9510 5257 or admin@stonningtonsymphony.org.au. The annual membership for Stonnington Symphony is $20 for both players and Friends of the orchestra. In addition, players also pay a concert fee of $40 for each program in which they play.

Stonnington Symphony stages three concerts each year at the Malvern Town Hall, with the final program of the year being repeated in a regional centre (not more than 1.5 hours drive from Melbourne) usually a week later. An additional free outdoor performance, produced by the City of Stonnington - Symphony Under the Stars - takes place on the final Saturday of February each year.

Generally, players are required to attend six rehearsals for each program in which they are scheduled to play. These rehearsals take place in the Malvern Town Hall from 7:30pm to 10:30pm on designated Tuesday and occasional Thursday evenings. Players are required to commit to all rehearsals for the performance in which they are involved.

Surrey Hills Orchestra is a community orchestra that has been performing for 30 years. We rehearse each Tuesday evening and hold major concerts in May and November. Recent concerts included works by Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Bizet. Surrey Hills Orchestra is proud of the diverse range of ages and professional backgrounds of its players. We encourage members to perform as a soloist in the August Concertofest.

Players need to have had orchestral and/or ensemble experience and have the equivalent of at least Grade 7 AMEB. Good sight-reading skills are assumed and the willingness to practise between rehearsals. Acceptance to the orchestra is dependent on positions available. We always need more upper strings (violins and violas) and brass and sometimes extra percussionists.

We are a fee paying orchestra and fees are payable at the beginning of each school term. Membership Fees pay music hire and purchase, venue hire, conductor salary, advertising, stationery, concert production and public liability insurance.

WA Doctors Orchestra

The West Australian Doctors' Orchestra (WADO) is the local branch of the Australian Doctors' Orchestra, which is formed by doctors from around Australia who gather together once a year to play to raise funds for charity. The national orchestra usually performs mid year. However, WA musicians have also formed a local orchestra and have held concerts in February for the past couple of years to raise funds for medical charity. The next concert will be at the Fremantle Town Hall on March 16, 2008 and we are planning to play Force of Destiny by Verdi, Scheherezade by Rimsky-Korsakov, and a violin concerto by Mozart (with Dr Martin Coopes as soloist). The Western Australia Charity Orchestra is committed to changing lives through music’s extraordinary power to communicate and inspire. Through a series of live concerts made possible by the generosity of hundreds of talented local musicians and volunteers we aim to raise funds and awareness to support local and national not-for-profit and charitable organisations.
The WACO season runs from December until early February, over the school holidays, and the musicians rehearse several times a week to prepare for the variety concerts. WACO consists of a full symphony orchestra and chorus. Participation is by audition only.

The Dorkestra are a group of adults with one thing in common - they struggle to play their musical instruments in time, in tune and with the notes in the right order… but have a lot of fun trying!

Fremantle Chamber Orchestra

FCO was founded in 2005 to play a single concert but as a result of positive press and feedback it was decided to keep the orchestra going.
The orchestra's current conductor is Jessica Gethin and Concertmaster is Rebecca White
The orchestra endeavors to play concerts that comprise both well known works as well as lesser known and original compositions. The orchestra aims to play two programmes a year and is open to invitations for additional performances. Each concert is treated as an individual project with players receiving a share of the proceeds after costs are covered.
Membership is by recommendation or audition and there is a balance of established and new players.

Vasek Young String Players Foundation

VYSPF is a registered charitable organisation dedicated to serving the larger community by working for the improvement of quality in Australian music education through courses, workshops, performances and the provision of resources. The VYSPF aims to provide scholarships and grants for WA string players under the age of 25, to develop a string resource centre for the WA music community and to establish a collection of fine string instruments for use by deserving students.

WAYMA exists to provide a high level of ensemble opportunities to youth beyond what would normally be available in schools and local communities. String players from approximately AMEB G2 are catered for by two dedicated string orchestras and 2 symphony orchestras. The age range is 9 - 25 and there are viola and double bass scholarships. As part of the WAYMA's outreach programme, young string groups perform in schools in the outer metropolitan region.

Western Australian Youth Strings

The Western Australian Youth Strings (WAYS) provides an opportunity for Western Australian primary school string students throughout the metropolitan area to develop their musical talent within a strings orchestra.
The Orchestra is under the musical direction of internationally renowned Mr Ashley Arbuckle. It strives for musical excellence and fun, while focusing on the key disciplines necessary to successfully play within an orchestra.
WAYS offers the opportunity to play before large audiences. The Orchestra performs at least five times a year, including at Government House. It provides a great pathway to further youth orchestral and musical opportunities.
WAYS is a non-profit, independent community organisation, run by the Orchestra’s parents.

Hill Youth String Ensemble

Established in 2006 and with music and stands courtesy of the Bendigo Bank, the ensemble aims to perform in the Hills area twice a term.
Membership is open to school age students who have been learning a string instrument for one year or more. (Cellists are especially welcome at the moment)
Rehearsals are in the Mt Helena area on Saturday mornings starting at 10:15am.

Perth Scottish Fiddlers: Junior Group
