Allegri Chamber Orchestra’s Easter Celebration
The Allegri Chamber Orchestra’s first concert programme for this year has been chosen to be appropriate to the Easter season. The Cantata ‘Ich habe genug’ portrays the acceptance of death and the hope of new life that is found in so many of the works by the devout Johann Sebastian Bach. The soloist in both the cantata and the aria ‘Erbarme dich’ from the St Matthew Passion is mezzosoprano Donna Stone-Friedl. Allegri’s Artistic Director Jacek Slawomirski plays the exquisite solo violin part in the latter work. Noel Nouvelet ,`The Green Blade Ariseth’ also expresses the optimism of new life. Perth composer Jeff Carroll wrote the work for Allegri violinist Richard Isted, who is the soloist in this first performance. The concert opens with Purcell’s Pavane and Chaconne and includes an arrangement of the Sinfonia from Bach’s Cantata 156. The performance starts at 3 pm on Sunday in the Sacred Heart Chapel, Mary Street, Highgate. There is ample parking for the Chapel off Harold Street.
